With a population of approximately one million, Sendai is located on the Pacific coast, about 300 km (180 miles) north of Tokyo. You can reach it within two hours by Shinkansen from Tokyo.
Sendai is the capital of Miyagi prefecture, which belongs to the Tohoku district, the northeast part of the main island Honshu.
